The Crestron Cevo Mini Remote is a slim handheld remote for Crestron Home systems, designed around streaming and everyday TV watching, and in September 2026 it was named one of the Best New Hardware winners at the CEDIA Smart Home Awards Americas. For a London home it means the TV room can have one simple remote that also sets the lights and lowers the blinds, with no phone or wall panel needed to start a film.
What the Crestron Cevo Mini Remote is
The Cevo Mini is not brand new. Crestron announced it on 2 September 2025, saying it was available to pre-order and would be on the market by the end of that year. What is new is the recognition. CE Pro reported on 8 September 2026 that it was one of eleven Best New Hardware winners at the CEDIA Smart Home Awards Americas 2026, celebrated at a ceremony during CEDIA Expo 2026. Crestron's Configure Pro, which we covered in our guide to the new setup platform, was among the Best New Software winners on the same list.
The remote itself is deliberately small and plain. Crestron's product page sums up the idea with the line "Simplicity is the definitive luxury", and describes a metal profile around a single gloss black glass face, with a soft matte back shaped to the grip. The specification Crestron publishes is short enough to list in full:
- Seven display buttons. Seven programmable buttons whose text and icons can be customised, so they can be labelled for your sources, a lighting scene or the blinds.
- Fixed buttons for the basics. Fourteen fixed buttons cover functions such as home, mute, menu, exit and play, with a power button and a five way navigation pad alongside.
- Wi-Fi communication. It connects over Wi-Fi on 2.4 or 5 GHz, with a listed range of up to 15 metres, depending on the site.
- Feedback you can feel. Each press is confirmed with a gentle vibration.
- Wakes when lifted. Movement sensing wakes the remote as it is picked up, and the brightness of the display buttons adjusts to the light in the room.
- About ten days per charge. Crestron quotes ten days of normal use from the rechargeable battery and a three hour charge over USB-C.
- A voice button. A built in microphone captures voice commands. What voice control can do depends on how the system is set up, so ask us before relying on it.
Essential Install, which looked at the remote in a feature on 23 February 2026, described the layout in one line: "The long button across the top shows all available sources." Picking up the remote and choosing what to watch is meant to be a single press.
Who the Cevo Mini suits
We would suggest it for any room where the main activity is watching something: a sitting room, a snug, a bedroom with a TV or a dedicated home cinema. It suits households where not everyone wants to open an app, and it is the easiest thing to hand to guests, grandparents or a babysitter.
It does not replace the other ways of controlling a Crestron Home system. Each has its place:
| Control | Best at | Where we would put it |
|---|---|---|
| Cevo Mini Remote | Watching TV and films from the sofa, with a few favourite scenes to hand | One in each TV room, on a side table or its dock |
| Wall touch screen | Lighting, blinds, heating, music and cameras for the whole house | Kitchen, hall or landing |
| Crestron Home app | The same control from the phone already in your pocket | Your phone or tablet |
| Wall keypad | Lighting and blind scenes as you walk into a room | By the door of each room |
If a large wall panel is more your style, our post on the 15 inch TSW-1580 touch screen covers the other end of the scale.
What you need to get it
The Cevo Mini is an addition to a Crestron system. It is not a universal remote that can be bought and paired with a TV on its own. Three things need to be in place.
- A compatible Crestron system. Crestron lists the remote for Crestron Home OS on Version 2 hardware and for custom programmed 4-Series systems, and says 3-Series processors are not supported. If you are not sure which processor you have, we can check it for you.
- Good Wi-Fi where you sit. The remote talks to the system over Wi-Fi, so a weak signal at the sofa can mean slow or missed button presses. In a London house with thick walls or a basement cinema, that usually calls for an access point in or near the room. Our guide to how many Wi-Fi access points a London home needs explains the planning.
- Setup by your installer. The seven display buttons are assigned and labelled as part of the system configuration, so we add and test the remote during a visit.
The remote comes with a USB-C cable, though Crestron notes that a wall plug is not included. The wireless table dock, which holds the remote in place with magnets while it charges, is sold separately. Crestron has published a US dollar price only, so please ask us for current pricing and availability.
What it means for your London home
In many London properties the equipment lives out of sight: in a cupboard under the stairs, a basement plant room or a rack shared with the multi room audio. A Wi-Fi remote suits that arrangement, because it does not rely on being pointed at a box behind the TV. The room has a screen, speakers and a small remote on the arm of the sofa, and nothing else on show.
The display buttons are where it becomes more than a TV remote. Crestron says its interactive cells can be personalised for scenes and favourites, with control of lights and shades. We would usually suggest giving one button to a film scene that dims the lights and closes the blinds, and another to switch the room off at bedtime.
If you already have a Crestron Home system, adding a Cevo Mini is a small job once the processor and the Wi-Fi are confirmed. If you are planning a new system, decide at design stage which rooms get a handheld remote, so that a socket for the dock ends up beside the right chair. As a Crestron installer in London we can supply, configure and support the remote as part of a new Crestron system or an upgrade, with 1Install Care there for support afterwards.
Questions we are often asked
Is the Crestron Cevo Mini Remote a new product?
No. Crestron announced it in September 2025, and the news in September 2026 is that it was one of the Best New Hardware winners at the CEDIA Smart Home Awards Americas.
Will it work with my existing Crestron system?
Crestron lists it for Crestron Home OS on Version 2 hardware and for custom programmed 4-Series systems, with no support for 3-Series processors, so the first step is checking which processor you have.
Does it need to be pointed at the TV?
It communicates with the Crestron system over Wi-Fi, so what matters is a good Wi-Fi signal in the room, with a listed range of up to 15 metres.
How long does the battery last?
Crestron quotes ten days of normal use per charge and a three hour recharge over USB-C, and an optional wireless dock keeps it topped up between uses.
Can it control lights and blinds as well as the TV?
Yes. The seven display buttons can be set up for lighting scenes, blinds and favourites as well as sources, as part of the Crestron Home configuration.
