LED Video Wall Installation

An LED video wall gives a reception, boardroom or shop one seamless picture of almost any size, bright enough for daylight and sharp enough to read up close. 1Install is a Hisense approved LED video wall installer, and we also design and install Samsung and Philips LED walls for businesses across London and the Home Counties.

It is built from small panels of red, green and blue LEDs that butt together into one surface, so the picture runs edge to edge with no black lines through it. The LEDs give off their own light, which is why an LED wall stays vivid in a glass fronted lobby, and why black areas of the picture look truly black: those LEDs are simply off.

LED video walls for London businesses

Most of the LED walls we are asked about fall into a few kinds of space:

  • Receptions and lobbies. The first thing visitors see, often opposite a wall of glass. Brand films, welcome messages and building news, readable from the door.
  • Boardrooms and town hall spaces. One large picture for presentations and hybrid meetings, with the camera fitted above or below the wall and the room set up for Microsoft Teams or Zoom.
  • Shops and showrooms. Feature walls and window displays that hold the eye from the street.
  • Hospitality. Bars, restaurants, hotels and members' clubs, where one system shows sport, menus and events.
  • Event and training rooms. Rooms that are too bright, or too big, for projection to work well.

The brands we install

Hisense. We are approved by Hisense to install its LED video walls. Hisense makes LED all in one displays from 108 inches, with a touch version, up to 163 inches, plus indoor LED cabinets for walls built to a custom size.

Samsung. The Wall is Samsung's MicroLED range. One model has a 0.63 mm pixel pitch and, in Samsung's words, a deep black background that blankets the screen with perfect uniformity. For a quicker install, The Wall All in One puts a 146 inch 4K picture, the control box and speakers into one product, and Samsung says two people can fit it in about two hours.

Philips. The Philips professional range, made by PPDS, includes 110 and 135 inch Unite LED all in one walls as well as modular panels. Philips says its 110 inch model weighs 74 kg and goes up in under an hour, and that two people can fit the 135 inch version in about an hour and a half.

We start from the room, the content and the budget, then recommend the brand and model that suit them.

Getting the pixel pitch right

Pixel pitch is the gap between the centres of neighbouring pixels, in millimetres, and it decides how close people can be before they see the individual dots. AVIXA, the audiovisual industry association, explains pixel pitch with a rule of thumb that multiplies the pitch by 10 to give a viewing distance in feet. Samsung uses a closer figure of 8 feet for each millimetre. Converted to metres, the two rules give a sensible range for the closest viewer:

Closest viewer Pitch to consider
2.5 m 0.8 to 1.0 mm
3 m 1.0 to 1.2 mm
4 m 1.3 to 1.6 mm
5 m 1.6 to 2.0 mm
6 m 2.0 to 2.5 mm
8 m 2.6 to 3.3 mm

Resolution follows from the pitch and the width. A 4K picture is 3,840 pixels across, so at 1.25 mm it needs a wall 4.8 m wide, and at 0.9375 mm, 3.6 m. A finer pitch costs more per square metre, so getting this right is where most of the budget is won or lost.

From survey to handover

  1. Site survey. We look at the wall and what is behind it, the power, the heat and ventilation, the sight lines and where the content will come from.
  2. Design and drawings. You get the size, pitch and brand, the frame and fixings, the power and data, and how the wall joins the control, sources, cameras and sound.
  3. Structure and services. The wall is made flat and strong, with power and data where the drawings show, coordinated with your fit out contractor.
  4. Installation. We build and level the frame, fit the panels and processor, and connect everything from signage players to meeting room systems.
  5. Calibration. Brightness and colour are set for the room, every source is tested and your team is shown how to use it.
  6. Aftercare. Support and maintenance through 1Install Care, with remote help for most questions.

Our London office project, 80 meeting spaces designed, cabled, installed and commissioned for one corporate client, shows how we run larger jobs.

LED video wall or something else?

An LED wall is not always the right buy. For a meeting room screen up to about 98 inches, a large flat panel display costs far less. In a dark training room, projection gives a big image cheaply. An LCD video wall sits between the two, but always shows the bezels between its screens. Where a picture has to be very large, seamless and bright, LED wins, and it often works hand in hand with digital signage elsewhere in the building.

Why 1Install

We have nearly two decades of experience in professional AV, and the people who design your wall are the people who install and support it. As a Hisense approved installer who also fits Samsung and Philips, we can compare brands for you fairly, and we can tie the wall into Crestron or Control4 control with the lighting, blinds, sound and video conferencing. See our Teams Room installation in London and AV installers in London pages for the rest of what we do, our commercial AV overview, or get a budget in minutes with the commercial Quote Builder. Questions we are often asked

What does an LED video wall cost?

The size and pixel pitch drive most of the price, followed by the brand, the structure and finishing, and the sources and control around the wall. After a survey we send a fixed, itemised quote. A design consultation is £360 plus VAT, as on our booking page.

How close can people stand to an LED wall?

Closer as the pitch gets finer. As a guide, multiply the pitch by 10 for a comfortable distance in feet, so a 1.25 mm wall suits viewers from about 12 feet, or 3.8 metres. Small text needs more care than video, so we test with your real content.

Is an LED wall bright enough for a shop window?

With the right model, yes. A wall facing the street needs more brightness than one in a meeting room, and we choose the panels for the light in the space, then calibrate them on site so the picture is bright without glaring.

How long does installation take?

An all in one LED wall can go up in a morning: Samsung quotes about two hours for two people for The Wall All in One, and Philips about an hour and a half for its 135 inch model. Modular walls take longer, because the frame is built on site before the panels go on. Either way we work to a programme agreed at the survey.

What happens if a panel fails?

Many current walls are serviced from the front, so a module is changed without taking the wall down. We suggest keeping a few spare modules from the same production batch, so a replacement matches the rest of the wall, and we look after the wall through 1Install Care.

Will an LED wall work with our Teams Rooms?

Yes. It becomes the main screen in the room, with the camera, microphones and speakers chosen to suit, and one touch to join a meeting. Out of hours it can show signage or company news.

We install LED video walls across London, Surrey, Berkshire and the rest of the Home Counties.
