Biamp Gym Audio at Change North Adelaide: Lessons for London Gyms and Hotels

On 22 September 2026 Biamp announced that Change North Adelaide, a fitness and wellness venue in South Australia, now runs a complete Biamp gym audio system built on Desono DP8 pendant loudspeakers, Desono C-IC6 in-ceiling loudspeakers, Voltera controllers, Apprimo Wall Controllers and Parlé microphones. For London gyms, boutique studios and hotels with fitness suites, it is a useful example of one audio platform handling loud classes and quiet spa music in the same building.

  • Biamp announced the Change North Adelaide project in a press release dated 22 September 2026, datelined Beaverton, Oregon, and Adelaide, Australia.
  • The functional training area uses Biamp Desono DP8 pendant loudspeakers, according to Biamp.
  • The cardio zone, Pilates studio and spa areas use Biamp Desono C-IC6 in-ceiling loudspeakers, which the release describes as marine-grade.
  • Biamp Voltera controllers, Apprimo Wall Controllers and Parlé microphones complete the system, giving staff zone control and instructors voice reinforcement.
  • Adelaide-based integrator Leedall installed the system and, Biamp says, commissioned it offline before going on site.

What Biamp says was installed at Change North Adelaide

The story comes from a Biamp press release published on 22 September 2026. Biamp describes Change North Adelaide as a premier fitness and wellness destination with functional training areas, a Pilates studio, a cardio zone, a recovery lounge and spa facilities. Each of those spaces, the release says, needed a different acoustic approach.

Training floor: high energy classes needed powerful, clear sound, so the integrator, Leedall, used Desono DP8 pendant loudspeakers. Biamp's own data sheet describes the DP8 as an 8-inch pendant loudspeaker for open architecture spaces, with a 1.25-inch compression driver, 115 degree conical coverage and a built-in autoformer for 70V or 100V distribution lines. The same data sheet lists fitness clubs among its intended applications and notes weather-resistant construction with treated drivers.

Cardio and Pilates: these zones use Desono C-IC6 in-ceiling loudspeakers. Biamp says the aim was consistent audio that supports focused workouts without overwhelming the space, and the press release credits the marine-grade construction with long-term durability. Biamp's own C-IC6 data sheet lists indoor, climate controlled environments, so check the rating before specifying it near a pool or steam room.

Spa and wellness: more C-IC6 speakers were specified here, this time for discreet background music that supports relaxation rather than competing with it.

Control and voice: Apprimo Wall Controllers let staff and instructors manage audio zones, while Parlé microphones provide voice reinforcement for instructors during classes. Voltera controllers sit behind the system. On its Voltera family page, Biamp describes Voltera as a range of amplifiers and amplified loudspeaker controllers, and says its D Series and D M Series controllers are configurable in Tesira or VenueTune software, support AVB, Dante and AES67, and have channels that can drive low impedance, 70V or 100V lines. The press release does not say which Voltera models were used.

Why Biamp gym audio is relevant to London venues

Many London fitness operators face a similar problem in tighter buildings. A basement studio in the City, a hotel fitness suite in Mayfair or a members' club with a pool and treatment rooms all need loud, punchy sound in one room and almost silent music next door.

The Adelaide project shows one platform used across very different spaces, with pendants over the open floor, ceiling speakers in the cardio, Pilates and spa areas, and wall controllers for staff. That model fits:

  • Gym chains and independent gyms with a mix of open floor, studios and changing areas.
  • Boutique studios for cycling, HIIT, yoga and Pilates, where the instructor's voice matters as much as the music.
  • Hotels with fitness suites and spas, where guests expect a premium feel and noise must not drift into bedrooms or treatment rooms.
  • Corporate wellness floors in London offices, which often share a building with meeting rooms and quiet zones.

Matching speaker type to each space

The table below sets out how Biamp says each zone was handled in Adelaide, alongside London spaces with similar needs.

Zone at Change North Adelaide Biamp product named Similar London space
Functional training area Desono DP8 pendant loudspeakers Open gym floor, warehouse style studio with exposed ceiling
Cardio zone and Pilates studio Desono C-IC6 in-ceiling loudspeakers Treadmill rows, reformer studio, hotel fitness suite
Spa and wellness areas Desono C-IC6 in-ceiling loudspeakers Hotel spa corridor, treatment rooms, relaxation lounge
Instructor voice Parlé microphones Group exercise studio, class space shared with events
Staff control Apprimo Wall Controllers Reception desk, studio entrance, spa front of house

Biamp's data sheet for the C-IC6 adds some useful detail: it is a two-way 6.5-inch ceiling loudspeaker with 130 degree conical coverage, a total depth under 151 mm and paintable grilles. Shallow depth helps where London ceiling voids are tight. The same data sheet notes the C-IC6 is certified for Zoom and Microsoft Teams, which is interesting for venues that also host meetings or hybrid training.

What London operators should plan before choosing a system

Map the zones first. List every space that needs sound, how loud it should be at peak times, and who will change the volume. Change North Adelaide had five distinct areas; many London sites have more once changing rooms, cafés and corridors are counted.

Decide who controls what. The Adelaide system gives staff and instructors wall controllers to manage the audio zones. That avoids someone at reception turning the spa up to match the spin class.

Plan for the instructor's voice. Parlé microphones were included for voice reinforcement. If classes rely on coaching cues, the microphone and speaker layout need designing together, not added later.

Ask about offline commissioning. Biamp says Leedall configured and tested the whole installation before deployment, which reduced time on site. For a London gym that cannot close for long, or a hotel that wants work done between guests, a system that can be prepared away from the building is worth asking about.

Think about neighbours. In London's mixed use buildings, sound from a training floor can travel into offices or flats, so placement and level limits belong in the brief.

Where this fits in a London building

A hotel or office building with a fitness suite rarely treats it as a separate project. The same building usually has meeting rooms, a boardroom and perhaps an events space. A Biamp gym audio approach like the one in Adelaide uses the same family of loudspeakers, controllers and microphones that Biamp sells into meeting spaces, which can make long-term support simpler. We covered another Biamp platform for meeting spaces in our post on the Biamp Devio UCX and Parlé SCR-10.

Leedall's Tim Biedman summed up the outcome in the press release: "We have complete confidence in the system's long-term reliability and performance." The release does not give speaker numbers or timescales.

If you run a London venue and want sound that suits each room, ongoing maintenance and support matters as much as the first installation. For a rough budget on meeting and conferencing spaces in the same building, try our commercial quote builder.

Questions we are often asked

What Biamp speakers are used in gyms?

At Change North Adelaide, Biamp says the gym uses Desono DP8 pendant loudspeakers on the functional training floor and Desono C-IC6 in-ceiling loudspeakers in the cardio, Pilates and spa areas.

Can one Biamp system run a loud gym floor and a quiet spa?

Yes. According to Biamp, the Change North Adelaide system delivers powerful sound for training classes and discreet background music in the spa and wellness areas from one integrated system.

How do gym instructors control the music with Biamp?

Through Apprimo Wall Controllers. Biamp says staff and instructors use them to manage audio zones, and Parlé microphones provide voice reinforcement during classes.

Is the Biamp Desono DP8 suitable for a fitness club?

Yes. Biamp's DP8 data sheet lists fitness clubs among its applications and describes weather-resistant construction, an 8-inch driver and 115 degree conical coverage.

Who installed the audio at Change North Adelaide?

Leedall, an integrator based in Adelaide, installed the system, according to Biamp's press release of 22 September 2026.
