Good meeting room technology is the kind nobody has to think about: you walk in, you see what to do, and the call starts. Over a week in November 2024 we worked through the meeting rooms of one office, and these photos show a few of the finished rooms, from Logitech video bars and a Logitech Tap to a Crestron panel and a screen set into a timber frame.
A video bar above two screens
In one room the Logitech bar is mounted above the gap between two screens, so the camera looks out from the centre of the wall. When the room is idle the screens show Logitech's own step by step guide to plugging a laptop in with an HDMI cable, which answers the first question most visitors have.
The Tap and the choice of service
In a room with a round table, the Logitech Tap sits beside a cable box set into the tabletop. During setup it lists the meeting services the room can run, Zoom Rooms, Microsoft Teams, RingCentral, Tencent Meeting Rooms and Google Meet, so the same hardware can follow whichever service the business has chosen.
Crestron where there are more sources
A room with several inputs is run from a Crestron touch panel on a dark wooden desk. Its first page offers four sources with a preview button under each, wireless sharing through the Kramer VIA app, the table, the lectern and a PC, plus a button for the audio controls. Naming the inputs after where they are in the room saves everyone a guess.
A screen that looks built in
Elsewhere, a large display sits in a timber frame with grey felt panels on either side, mounted on a black glass wall, so the screen reads as part of the architecture.
Planning meeting room technology in London
- Settle on the meeting service first; the hardware follows from it.
- Match the video bar and the screen size to each room.
- Run cables to the table and the wall before the finishes go on.
- Use a simple touch controller in small rooms and a control system where there are many sources.
Logitech's page on the Logitech Tap shows the controller used here. Our meeting room, video conferencing and Crestron pages go into each part, and our Teams Room installation in London page covers Microsoft Teams rooms.
