Home Cinema Installation in Hampshire

Home cinema installation in Hampshire for country houses, Winchester townhouses and new builds, with rooms designed to keep the sound where it belongs.

Sound travels through timber floors, stud walls and old doors, which matters in a busy family house. When we plan a cinema we look at what is above, below and beside the room, and how much of it needs treating, before any equipment is chosen.

Keeping the sound in: our Finchampstead build

For a cinema in Finchampstead, just over the county boundary in Berkshire, we built a new stud wall to hold the sound inside the room and lowered the ceiling to help the acoustics. Acoustic fabric then went over the walls, with Sonance speakers lined up behind it.

The finished room seats nine on two levels and is run with Crestron. See how the Finchampstead cinema was built.

Hampshire homes we work in

Many Hampshire projects are country homes with barns, garages and gardens, so the network behind a cinema has to reach well beyond the house. We also work in Winchester townhouses, where a media room in an existing room is often the right answer, and in new builds around Basingstoke and Fleet, where a cinema can be planned before the plaster goes on. Projects around Winchester, Fleet and Basingstoke are run by one team from survey to support.

What goes into the room

  • Soundproofing and acoustic treatment, planned with the building work
  • A projector and screen sized to the seating distance, or a large TV in a media room
  • Speakers hidden behind acoustic fabric or set into the ceiling
  • Cinema seating, carpet and lighting chosen with you or your interior designer
  • Blinds and lighting that react when a film starts, through motorised blinds and lighting control

Questions we are often asked

Can a home cinema really be soundproofed?

It can be made far quieter outside the room. The main tools are a new stud wall, a lowered or treated ceiling, well sealed doors and careful placing of the subwoofer. How far to go depends on who is sleeping above or next door.

Should we choose a projector or a TV?

A projector gives the biggest picture and suits a dark, dedicated room. A large TV stays bright in daylight and is simpler for a media room the family uses all day. Your proposal can price both, so you can compare.
