1Home KNX Server Installation

1Home KNX brings your KNX system into Apple Home, Google Home and Amazon Alexa, so the lights, heating and blinds work from your phone, your watch and your voice as well as the keypads. 1Install is an official 1Home partner, and we install and set up the 1Home Server for KNX homes across London and the Home Counties.

Rose gold wall keypad on a pale wall with backlit buttons for the bedrooms, corridor, lamps and pendant, the kind of control 1Home KNX also puts on your phoneKNX is superb at running a house, but on its own it has no consumer app or voice assistant. The 1Home Server fills that gap. It reads the devices from the KNX project, then presents them to the apps you already use through Matter, the shared smart home standard backed by Apple, Google and Amazon.

What 1Home KNX gives you

  • Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, SmartThings and Home Assistant, all from one server.
  • Local control. The server runs in the house and keeps working if the internet drops; only voice control needs a connection.
  • No monthly fees for the core features.
  • Automations that mix KNX with other Matter devices, such as Philips Hue lamps, Nuki door locks or Eve sensors.
  • Remote support over a secure connection, so we can help without a visit.

The details are on 1Home's own guide to KNX and Matter.

How we set up 1Home KNX

We install the 1Home Server on your network, import the devices from the ETS project, name every room and scene in plain words, and link the system to the apps and speakers you want. Then we test each light, blind and thermostat from the phone as well as the keypad, and show the family how to use it.

New KNX system or an existing one?

Both. On a new system we plan 1Home in from the start. On an older KNX system, put in by another installer, we can usually add 1Home once we have the ETS project, and tidy the programming at the same time. If you do not have KNX yet, our KNX installer page explains how a system is designed and installed.

1Home or a full Crestron or Control4 system?

1Home is the simple way to add app and voice control to KNX. If you also want whole house music, cinema control and dedicated touch screens, Crestron or Control4 can run alongside KNX. We will explain the difference in cost and feel before you decide, and our home automation page covers the wider choice.

Questions we are often asked

Does 1Home KNX work without the internet?

Yes. The server and the KNX system run locally, so lights, blinds and heating keep working. Voice assistants and control from outside the house need the internet.

Which apps can control KNX through 1Home?

Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Samsung SmartThings and Home Assistant, plus other apps that support Matter.

Is there a subscription?

1Home says there are no monthly fees for the server. We will tell you about any optional extras before you buy.

Can you add 1Home to a KNX system someone else installed?

Usually, yes. We need the ETS project file, or we can rebuild it, and then the server picks up the devices.

Do I still need keypads?

Yes, we recommend them. Keypads give guests and family instant control without a phone, and 1Home adds the app and voice on top.
